The World Bank to Discuss Virtual Reality and Cut Sheet Refresh in Print 17 Session

This article is the final article in a series introducing each of the three in-plant panelists on the Print 17 panel that I'll be moderating September 11th titled "In-Plant Panel: Bold Moves for the Future." The session features in-plant leaders in Healthcare, Higher Education and non-profit. In-plants need to make "bold moves" to survive and secure their future. Panelists will talk about one new service and one new initiative that each of them are working on or has deployed and the impact of the new services and initiatives on their organizations. We've featured UPMC's Amanda Bronowski and Sacramento State's Laura Lockett. This time we'll get a closeup of Jimmy Vainstein, the in-plant leader at the World Bank in-plant print center.

Introducing: Jimmy Vainstein, The World Bank, Print 17 In-plant Panelist 

Jimmy Vainstein is a Senior Project Manager for The World Bank's Printing & Multimedia Services. Vainstein manages the Bank's printing operations while exploring multimedia technologies for immersive communication experiences. His focus on innovation has helped bring value to The World 

Bank through recent print management workflow integration projects, high-speed inkjet technology implementation and pioneering Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) initiatives. Vainstein earned a Bachelor’s in Economics and a Master’s in Print Media from RIT. The World Bank in-plant produces over 65 million pages annually, is ranked in the top 10 in-plant rankings for both employees and sales and has been a recipient of several In-plant Printing and Mailing Association (IPMA), vendor and industry publication awards awards for their work and innovation. Offering print, digital and what they call expanded services, the 102-employee operation focuses on publication printing, operational documents, event support and general commercial-type printing. 

Virtual Reality Services Support the Parent Organization's Mission

The World Bank has two goals: end extreme poverty within a generation and boost shared prosperity. Printing & Multimedia Services recognized the potential of Virtual Reality (VR) to transport stakeholders virtually to areas of focus and connect them with the Bank’s mission while building a unique level of empathy and engagement. VR has developed staff skills and the innovation has been a catalyst for growth. VR Services now range from VR film production to a program that allows World Bank staff the ability to create VR and 360° content when they travel for projects abroad. Specifically, the Printing & Multimedia Services group focuses on the use of 360° images to support institutional operations for reporting and decision making. Content produced by the group can be viewed by anyone using PC desktops, mobile browsers and in virtual reality headsets. VR has enabled the in-plant print to directly support the mission of the Bank.

Initiate to Refresh Cut Sheet Operation Added Workflow Efficiency and Add Value

The Bank's cut sheet print centers, located in satellite locations, are critical because they support the Bank's Board with documents and produce quick printing requests, usually with same or next day delivery. The in-plant had a mix of aging equipment that needed to be refreshed. During the initiative, Vainstein realized that they could re-think their workflow to find efficiencies. After a competitive bidding process, the in-plant partnered with Ricoh to revamp these centers with seven new devices and ended up adding value by improving quality and expanding their product catalog with new ink capabilities. Vainstein will discuss the new service and the workflow software initiative in the September 11 panel session.

Elisha Kasinskas is Rochester Software Associates' (RSA) award-winning Marketing Director. She is responsible for all marketing, public relations, social media and communications, and community building for the firm. Ms. Kasinskas joined RSA in 2010.
